Dental Hygienists
Shelley Wilkey, Tammy Walker, Karen Vaughn, Karie Waterman, Loree Couch, Suzanne Hall
From the time you are welcomed back from the waiting room, our hygienists are here to serve you.
Your hygienist starts her work with you by evaluating your oral health and asking you questions about your recent dental problems or concerns. If X-rays are needed, the hygienist takes new pictures of your teeth and prepares those for further evaluation by the dentist. After the initial evaluation, the hygienist evaluates the gum tissue for periodontal disease and then checks your teeth for cavities and restoration needs. Next, the hygienist begins the cleaning procedure by removing tartar build-up, plaque, and stains. The next step in the process is hand polishing your teeth to remove any further stains or plaque. Your hygienist then preps you for the dentist to do a final evaluation and diagnose your treatment needs. When the dentist finishes working up your treatment plan, your hygienist will help you schedule your next appointment and help you with any instructions for following your treatment plan.
Our hygienists are dedicated to providing the best dental care and assisting you with all of your dental needs. All of our hygienists are RDH graduates and registered with the South Carolina State Board of Dentistry and the Dental Hygiene National Board.
Dental Assistants
Jamie Gibbs, Laura Brust, Kim Baxter, Dinah Webb (Not Pictured)
The dental assistants at Pasui Dentistry perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. They sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment, prepare and lay out the instruments and materials required to treat each patient, and obtain and update patient dental records. Assistants make patients comfortable in the dental chair and prepare them for treatment. During dental procedures, assistants work alongside the dentist to provide assistance. They hand instruments and materials to dentists and keep patients' mouths dry and clear by using suction hoses or other devices. They also instruct patients on postoperative and general oral healthcare.
Dental assistants also process dental x rays as directed by one of our dentists. They also may remove sutures, apply topical anesthetics to gums or cavity-preventive agents to teeth, remove excess cement used in the filling process, and place dental dams to isolate teeth for treatment.
Our dental assistants work very hard to make your dental experience as enjoyable as possible.

PREVENTIVE CARE
The best way to avoid dental problems is through prevention. Having regular check-ups and xrays allows us to treat dental problems before they cause discomfort. Recent studies also have linked dental health to other health issues such as heart disease, stroke, and low birth weight babies. Prevention is one of the most important things you can do to help ensure your overall health.
X-RAYS
We use the latest technique in digital x-ray technology. This type of x-ray uses 50-90% less radiation than traditional x-ray techniques and is immediately translated into a large, clear, accurate image onto our computer screen. Together, we can examine outer and inner structures and tissues of each tooth, as well as the surrounding roots, root canals, and gums. We are then able to work together to determine the very best treatment options for each patient.
SEALANTS AND FLUORIDE
Sealants and fluoride help guard your teeth against plaque. Sealants are most often used in children to seal the deep pits and grooves of the back teeth. They help protect the teeth from decay. Fluoride is also given primarily to children; however, it is helpful for adults as well.
TOOTH COLORED RESTORATIONS
Tooth colored restorations allow us to repair damage or decayed teeth with materials that match the shade of your surrounding teeth. These materials are stronger and longer lasting and provide esthetically pleasing results.
CROWNS AND BRIDGES
Crowns fit over broken, decayed, or damaged teeth. They offer strength to your existing tooth structure and a natural appearance. A bridge is a fixed prosthesis used to replace a missing tooth. It consists of a porcelain "tooth" that bridges the gap left by your missing tooth, as well as two abutting crowns on either side of the fake "tooth." The abutting crowns hold the "tooth" in place.
DENTURES AND PARTIALS
If you've lost some or all of your teeth you have the option of replacing them with either partials or dentures, which are custom fit to your mouth. If you are missing all of your teeth, a full set of dentures can be made. If you still possess some of your natural teeth, a partial denture can be made in order to fill in the spaces left by your missing teeth. Formulation of both partials and dentures require several appointments to ensure the best possible fit.
ROOT CANALS
Root canal treatment is necessary when the tooth becomes infected. The tooth's damaged nerve is removed and the the root canals are cleaned. This procedure can save the infected tooth from being lost.
TEETH WHITENING
The shade of your teeth can have a major impact on the appearance of your smile. The most common causes of tooth discoloration come from aging, coffee, tea, sodas and tobacco products. We offer a take-home bleaching kit that consists of custom-made trays and several syringes of bleach. Bleaching your teeth requires two appointments; at the first we will take impressions of your mouth, and at the second we will deliver your bleach trays to you and verify a properly fit. You can expect a whiter smile in as little as a week.

What to Expect?
New patients should feel right at home in our new office. We are excited about and love to see new patients. We try very hard to greet every patient upon arrival, and we endeavor to learn your name and those of your family quickly. First time patients will have new patient paperwork to fill out, so please arrive 15 minutes before your appointment time to complete these forms. Otherwise, you can download the new patient forms above to decrease your office visit time.
Unless you have current x-rays with you from your previous dentist, your hygienist will likely take a set of x-rays to assist our dental staff in determining your dental needs. After the hygienist has completed your cleaning, the dentist will conduct an oral soft tissue exam, screen for cancer, and also listen to any complaints or concerns you have about your dental health. Based on this, we will develop a treatment plan designed to maintain your optimal dental health. We will prioritize treatment according to your desires and what the dentist feels is the best course of action for your oral health. We encourage patient involvement while determining your treatment plan to ensure your satisfaction.
Before any major work is started, an administrative staff team member will discuss payment and financing information with you so you are never surprised by your financial responsibilities. We will do everything in our power to ensure that you have a pleasant experience.
